Zhanna here is a betty, we can most likely agree on that and initially I wanted to complain about her being described as, “A kind of girl-next-door…” The problem with my argument is this, she actually looks quite like the girl next door. Ok, the girl who used to live next door, and when I say next door, I mean next door-but-one. You can see my point though? And speaking of points, how about Zhanna’s zigzag silhouette? Angle spelt angel… There is also a squiffy eye in the mix and we all know about the power they have.

It seems amiss not to give at least a short paragraph to the actual girl next door. She was after all a league or two ahead of Zhanna, but that can probably be accounted for by my years passed at the time, I was of an impressionable age. She was a little older, and clearly rebellious, plus she used to play with my cat, which isn’t a euphemism. She wore a Madonna – Like A Virgin cut off tee and Morten Harket style wire/leather wrist paraphernalia. This image of cool was forever imprinted on me…

Sadly, it’s been a while since I clocked cut-offs and a fitted sheer lace onesie drifting over hot hard-top in my direction. Although I’m not much one for celebrity (consider my Liv post a lapse), the well dressed and perpetually cool betty does arouse my interest. A long standing hero bearing such qualities is Chloe Sevigny, she’s never not been hip. Her progressiveness in the arts has elevated forward in the world of fashion and it is always a pleasure to see her photographed, occupying the boundaries of such burns with a steely indifference and promise of as yet undiscovered illuminations… both typified by the above image from her Harper’s Bazaar shoot.

As an explanation for this mild fixation, to use Freudian terminology (probably incorrectly), a section of my dissertation created at the end of the MW university years explained at great length and endeavour the graceful acceptance and cinematic beauty of twilight through a cab window onto the face of Sevigny’s character Jenny in Larry Clark’s film Kids. Still some of my finest work I feel.

Clemence is a much more recent addition to the, if such thing existed, STNF approved list. If truth be told, she is likely a passing fad, but this I must be clear is only speculation. Besides, it is not like she’ll be going anywhere soon with her fine French figure gilded in a sunburst yellow that ripples through infinite pleats. And harmonised with a soft enveloping black too… Despite this ethereal description, the folded sleeves tether everything with an earthy and rustic solidity, which is disarming and inviting simultaneously.

As a youngster I went to this chicks house and she had SKY, this meant MTV and while there I was left alone briefly, just me and MTV. And there I watched Aerosmith – Crazy… call me forever changed. Not only have I ever since been a devoted Aerosmith fan, but the adolescent crushes on both Silverstone and Liv have remained – it’s a nostalgic love thing.

Last Night’s Party.

In honour of Woolgathering & Miscellany, I give you all the above – Jane Birkin. Miss W&M left a comment here relating to the imminent arrival of a classically modern variation of the ‘Birkin’ bag. And to offer a little gratitude for her endeavour to keep following STNF despite sporadic (at best) posting schedules I thought I’d let her inspire me… in that I found a picture of the ‘Birkinator’ thanks to Dahlface and posted it.

Before you move away from all of this and begin looking for something more exciting, just take a moment and appreciate what appears to be knitted shorts gracefully caressing Birkin’s thighs and her spectacular clashing knee high socks and jumper – sterling.
